hello flip flops

ah yes, flip flop season. perfect timing too... i’m going to michigan this weekend, which means i can make my annual trip to outpost to purchase my annual pair of teva flip flops. (the ones i’m wearing in this photo are actually too big). so i will buy my new pair of thin strap teva flip flops and proceed to wear them every day possible from now until september or october when i finally can’t pretend any longer that it’s summer and i bid them a fond farewell by tossing my dirty, sweaty, worn out flip flops into the trash. yes, for the last several years i have worn out a pair per summer. they are unsalvageable. and i love them.

new site

i am a girl who likes new things. whether it’s new furniture, new clothes, new towels, new books, new movies, new dishes, new cds.... every once in awhile (or maybe more frequently than that) i like new things. it feels refreshing, somehow. i feel like life is a constant state of change. i’m always learning new things and expanding my perspective, and it seems fitting that my things would grow with me.

in this case... it’s a new website. something simple. something inherently me. something with photos, and a blog, and links, and information about my life and my career. yes, i said career. it’s almost like i’m a grown up, or something.

anyway, i’m hoping this one sticks for a very long while (but surely with occasional updates and layout changes). come join me on my journey. welcome to my new life.

things that make me happy...

driving with the windows rolled down... big brown plastic sunglasses... my crimpy hair blowing all over the place... on the way to a job that i actually like... drinking warm diet coke from the can (yes, warm. weird, i know)... and listening to the brand new aqualung cd blaring from my radio.

life doesn't get any better than this.

raising the stakes

i've had about a million thoughts racing through my head lately and just haven't had the energy to get them down. i swear if i had a tape recorder in my head, i'd be much better off. there's something wrong with the fact that i'm a writer, and that i mentally write all day long, but i can't ever seem to get my pen to paper (or fingers to keys, as the case may be.)

anyway, i'm going to try to catch up a little. i've given up on writing down the details of my workouts, mostly because i've gone at least 4 or 5 times since i last wrote in here. but i will try to update occasionally. my sister and were working out the other day, i had gotten there first and was on the elliptical when she walked up and said "how about a little bet?" in order to motivate ourselves, she thought we should each set some sort of personal goal to reach by august, and whoever meets/comes closest to their goal wins. the loser has to pay for a weekend away. somewhere within driving distance, but an overnight hotel, maybe spa type weekend for the two of us. sounds good to me, not i just have to not lose. :)

my sister's goal is weight loss related, but i decided to take a different route. my goal is to run a mile without stopping and without walking any of it. i have never run an entire mile in my life. i've been pretty consistently running quarter miles, and once or twice i've pushed myself to do a half. but never a whole mile. my sister thought i should add a time to that, so i'm trying to decide. what's a reasonable mile running time for a 24 year old female? i'm thinking somewhere around 9 minutes? i don't need to bust my ass and run a 6 minute mile or anything. yesterday on the treadmill i walked/jogged/ran a mille in about 15 minutes. so i think 9 is a reasonable jump away. spa weekend, here i come....
